Giving art to your children, your nieces/nephews, or a young person in your life is deeply meaningful. This idea is not mine. It was my mother’s and it started me on my journey of always living with art. From the time I was little, my mother decided that I should have art in my room. (Most) every year, she would give me a piece of art. When I was young I didn’t particularly like this gift. I wanted another bead for my add-a-bead necklace or a trendy pocketbook or a super cool Esprit sweatshirt. But every year the art would make its way to my room and I lived with those pieces growing up. And I still live with them today. It was helpful that she, as an artist herself, had good taste. The meaning I subscribe to those pieces has evolved over the years. Even when your tastes change, there is an intrinsic meaning in the art you surround yourself with. Art is a reflection of your taste and your life at the time you acquired it. It’s a mini history of yourself.
